Using student names
Knowing and using student names can be a powerful classroom management tool. Using student names engenders a feeling that you know them, and care about them as an individual and as part of your tutorial group. Learning the students’ names helps them feel more at ease and to see themselves as a part of the group and engages them in the activity. It also increases self-esteem as students feel they are ‘known’. This sense of belonging helps establishes group cohesion and group interaction.
