Effective Opening of a Tutorial

Focus Points: Opening a Tutorial – Tutorial with Lucy

Lucy starts the tute off with a quick review of last week’s material. Notice what great attending behaviour Lucy has – she makes great eye contact with the group, is making great use of voice, and her body language is open. On this occasion Lucy opts to do the review as a whole group, inviting students to throw out key concepts from the previous week. She then makes the link to today's tutorial.

At all times she is supportive of their responses, using humour to great effect in terms of moving students along to the content of the tutorial. She concludes by establishing the context for the tutorial and draws students’ attention to the 3 key themes that they’ll be dealing with.
